A DNA Project, as it relates to genealogy, is designed to help connect people through the discovery that a man passes on his Y-chromosome identically to his male children and they in turn to their sons.

How Does It Work?
Researchers  know that there are 25 different locations on the Y-chromsome called Locus (or the plural, Loci) that can be identified for comparison purposes. Each Locus is given a number which acts as its name (e.g., Locus #393).  As each Locus is studied, the finding is given a number which is it's result, called an Allele (e.g., Locus #393 might have an Allele of 13 for you and 15 for someone else).  When all Loci are finished being categorized, the combined  Allele's produce a unique family signature. There are 12-marker tests and 25-marker tests.

What Company Will We Use?
We are going to use FamilyTreeDNA for our testing. They have a Y-DNA database and when 2 people show the same identical or near identical results they will notify both parties providing they have signed the FTDNA Release Form.

Who Can Participate?
We are looking for male Chancellor descendants (surname must be CHANCELLOR) from each of the major lines. Our line goes to South Carolina but beyond that information is nil. Many of the other Chancellors are able to make more reliable connections to Virginia, Pennsylvania, England and other locations. If we can connect our "lost" family with these it will hopefully help to solve some genealogical mysteries.
